About Woodland Children Ltd
Plastics, Polyesters and the Natural Alternatives
We often hear in the News these days how plastic is not only polluting the planet by the toxins it releases into the oceans and landfill when it breaks down but it is also not as safe as we originally thought and have been led to believe, resulting in various plastic baby products being taken off the market while further research is done into the potential damage it is causing to our young children.
Yet the vast majority of toys on the market are at present made of these same materials even though there are far better natural alternatives.
Polyester, which is generally used to stuff all toys is a synthetic material which is a member of the plastic family. It is produced by large petrochemical industry companies and is formed from the combination of a number of chemicals, many of which come from the distillation of crude oil - a depleting and polluting resource.
Natural Alternatives
Wool on the other hand is naturally resistant to mould, mildew, and moisture and doesn't contain any harmful components. Both wool and cotton are completely biodegradable causing no damage to the earth when they are disposed of, as well as being renewable - sheep and cotton plants reproduce and flourish, continually providing us with more wool and cotton!
Wood is a renewable and sustainable material. It comes in a range of colours, shades, densities, textures and finishes. It is strong, light and durable and is close to the perfect material for many of societies needs not least of which is our children´s toys.
Quite simply we don´t need to produce plastic toys which take years to break down, cause harm to the planet in their production and harm to the children who play with them when we can use the supply of cotton, wool and wood that nature gives us which are naturally renewable and biodegradable.
